Awesome :: Re:Generation

Everyone listens to music, whether intentionally or unintentionally. You’re listening when you watch television, when you go shopping, when you eat at a restaurant, when you ride the bus, when you use a public bathroom…but how often do you think about the musicians behind that music? Do you ever wonder about the process?

Sometimes the true genius of music is really in its creation, rather than in its performance. So many people are focused on the end product – but the real magic is watching talented musicians and songwriters at work.

Re:Generation, a documentary project sponsored by The Grammys and Hyundai, gives viewers a glimpse into the process of creating music. 5 big names in electronic music are randomly assigned a genre of music – and paired with legendary artists within that genre – and must create a track that combines the best of both worlds. It’s a little long, but it’s worth every minute. And if you like what you hear, you can download the soundtrack for free at regenerationmusicproject.com. Check it out.

  1. This sounds completely brilliant! Gutted I can’t actually watch the video, but I’m in the UK :( I’ve been arguing ‘The Mark Ronson Case’ (as I rather pretentiously like to call it) for years, SO many people write him off as ‘talentless’ because they have no idea what it is he does! I for one can’t get enough of his quirkiness… More power to producers!

    Great blog btw x

    • It is brilliant! Bummer that you can’t watch it. The Mark Ronson portion might be my favorite – he works with drummer Zigaboo Modeliste, Erykah Badu, Mos Def, & the Dap Kings. Anyone who doesn’t think he is a real musician is clearly uninformed!

      Thanks for reading! Your blog is great too, I enjoyed your post about him – and I couldn’t agree more about rainy Sundays :)
